Professor and class,

I was actually surprised at all the things that were new to me. I did not know that she is the one who began to change the image of the nursing profession. She started by building working relationships with”journalists, philanthropists, lawmakers, and administrators and lobbied to improve overall conditions for nurses so that patient care would improve and respectable women would be drawn to the profession” (Judd, 2014, p. 70). She also “outlined standards related to personal comportment and decorum for nurses that included directives for morality, self-restraint, and devotion to service” (Judd, 2014, p. 70). Her views of nursing were published in many different ways and “…strongly influenced the vision of professional nursing” (Judd, 2014, p. 70). She changed the world views of the nursing profession in an extremely positive way. She ended the dark period of nursing and formed our profession into what it is today. Today we are the top trusted profession and have been for the last 20 years according to ONSVoice.com. Her efforts paved the way to “open up a new and respectable career option for women all over the world” (Judd, 2014, p.71). It is amazing to me that one woman did all of this. She is the reason that I am able to be a nurse and have this amazing career today.
